So, waking up as Aubrey Posen is not the best way to start a day.

Especially when that day is Thanksgiving and the real Aubrey Posen is at home about to have a very orderly Thanksgiving dinner with her - absolutely terrifying - father.

This leaves Beca crouched in a closet behind some rather fluffy fur coats with her - Aubrey’s - phone pressed to her ear.

“What the hell is going on?!” Beca whispers harshly, pausing to flick some blond (oh god, she’s actually a blonde right now) hair out of her eyes. Her voice is weird and foreign and way too high and it’s kind of freaking her out.

Also freaking her out is hearing her own voice coming from the phone in tones (and pitches) it’s probably never reached before. “If you make me look like a freak in front of my father, I am going to get a giant tramp stamp tattoo across your back, I swear to God!”

Beca rolls her eyes, it feels natural in this body too. “Just tell me how to survive; people keep saluting and it’s freaking me out.”

“Have you ever seen a military movie?” The irony of Beca’s voice actually talking about movies is not lost on her.

“I think I saw Forrest Gump when I was, like, nine.”

“Oh Christ. Well, just keep your back straight, don’t speak unless spoken to, defer to your superiors, don’t chew with your mouth open, salute my father whenever he walks by and for the love of all things holy, do not talk about music in front of any of them.” Aubrey sounds as serious as she ever has.

“Got it.” Beca pauses and listens to Major Posen barking orders on the other side of the door and feels something tighten in her chest. She’s not sure if it’s her or Aubrey’s body just reacting. “Hey Aubrey?”

“Yeah?” Aubrey replies and Beca can hear the faint strains of a Billie Holliday record filtering through the phone. She feels suddenly and violently homesick.

“I’m sorry.” And Beca’s not talking about the whole body-swap thing - though they will have to really discuss how the hell this happened at some point.

There’s a long silence on the line and Beca is checking her phone to make sure the call didn’t drop when Aubrey says, very quietly, “Thanks, Beca.”

“Anytime,” Beca’s pretty sure her own smirk-smile has never crossed Aubrey’s face before, the muscles feel kind of weird. “Oh, and do not get into a discussion about the diva ballads of the 80’s and 90’s with my mother; it will not end well for you.”

“Got it.” Aubrey’s voice (Beca’s voice, argh) sounds faintly amused.

“Good luck, Aubrey.”

“You too, Beca.”

They both hang up, straighten (Beca) and slouch (Aubrey) into character before heading out to face their families.
