Aliya Mustafina’s gold medal winning uneven bars routine at the London 2012 Olympics.
With a start value of 17.000, she finished with 16.133, ahead of China’s He Kexin by 0.200.
Mustafina displayed a dominance rarely seen in gymnastics at the 2010 world championships, winning medals in all but one event, including the all-around gold. She was so far ahead that a similar haul was expected in London. However, six months later, Mustafina blew out her left ACL at the 2011 European championships, putting her chances of simply competing in London in doubt. After undergoing surgery, it was months before she could compete at the same level again.
“I am very, very happy I’ve won gold,” Mustafina said. “Every medal represents its own thing.”
